Girl Scouts are invited to USM for an inspiring and adventure-filled day, designed especially for girls in 6th-12th grade, to explore the many ways the Humanities help us understand people, places, and cultures across time. Through hands-on, imaginative activities, girls will experience how creativity, storytelling, and exploration bring the human experience to life. Featured activities include:

Anthropology Jr - Step into the shoes of an anthropologist and uncover the mysteries of humanity! The girls will explore the four subfields of anthropology through fun, interactive challenges-interviewing aliens and superheroes, revealing secrets hidden in bones, excavating ancient artifacts, and discovering the fascinating diversity of languages around the world.

Writing Sky Words: Citywide Mural Poetry Project - Join Hattiesburg's Poet Laureate, Dr. Jennifer Polson Peterson, for an unforgettable fusion of art and poetry. The girls will respond to Hattiesburg's colorful murals with original poems inspired by the city's stories and imagery, and their amazing work will be celebrated during National Poetry Month as part of the citywide Writing Sky Words mural-poetry project.

Humanities on the Map: A Digital Journey Through Time - In this interactive session, the girls will travel the globe using Google Earth, taking digital field trips to world-famous historical sites-from ancient ruins to modern landmarks. Along the way, they'll uncover the fascinating stories behind these places and discover how technology helps us understand the past and its impact on our world today.

Through creativity, curiosity, and discovery, this event invites girls to see how the Humanities connect us all - and how their own voices and ideas can shape the stories of tomorrow.

Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m., and lunch will be served. This is a drop-off event for girls in grades 9-12. Girls in 6th to 8th grade must be accompanied by an adult or adhere to the correct girl/adult ratio. If you have trouble registering, please contact Kyna McCalpin at 601-326-5648 or kmccalpin@gsgms.org.
