GSGMS Junior through Ambassador Girl Scouts and their chaperones are invited to participate in an overnight experience at Dauphin Island Sea Lab. This event's check-in with the lead chaperone (GSGMS staff) begins at 12:00 pm at Horizon Hall (pink building on the south end of campus). Girls/adults will be assigned to a dorm at that time. Programming begins promptly at 1:00 pm and goes to 5:00 pm. There will be 2 groups (each group will have no more than 35 people per group). At 5:00 pm troops will be released to explore the grounds and/or leave for dinner. All adults/girls must return to the sea lab no later than 8:00 pm. The next day, group 1 will have breakfast between 7:00-7:15 am and group 2 will be between 7:15-7:30 am. Check-out at dorm no later than 8:00 am. Programming for the next day begins at 8:00 am and ends at 12:00 pm.

This is a member event; however, if you are a non-member adult/chaperone you can register for $45.  Please contact Kyna McCalpin at 601-326-5648 or kmccalpin@gsgms.org to complete your registration.

Once registered, each participant will receive a packet with their Medical release, Media release, chaperone packet, dorm layout, and map of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. You will be assigned your dorm and your group when you arrive at check-in on the 10th.

The two activities will be:

  • Squid Dissection and Specimen Lab - girls will discover marine animals using a huge collection of preserved specimens and all dissections will be done in pairs of 2.
  • Sea Level Rise and Climate Change Field Class and Lab - girls will walk the shoreline while using GPS and track the shore over time back in the lab. Wear appropriate shoes (NO CROCS) as feet will get wet.
