Dear Leaders and Volunteers,
You have probably all heard by now that COVID-19 numbers are dramatically rising. In fact, the new cases reported each day now exceeds the numbers during late summer and early fall. New guidelines strongly urge us not have in-person gatherings with people outside our nuclear household. Therefore, we are suspending all in-person troop meetings, including overnight campouts, council events, beginning right now. If you are participating in an outdoor activity this weekend, you may still do that, but you must follow the council guidelines which mandate wearing a mask.
New leaders, this does not mean you cannot keep in touch with your troop! If you do not have a Zoom account, please contact Kyna at firstname.lastname@example.org to purchase one at a VERY discounted rate of $36.00 for a year. If you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable using Zoom, your membership specialist can help you!
Also, if you are not following Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi on Facebook, do that now! You will be notified when new virtual events are posted. There are several virtual Christmas events coming up that are being hosted by the council. The fliers for those events are on the council Facebook page and service unit pages. Another resource for you and for families is the GSUSA website, www.girlscouts.org. On our own webpage, www.gsgms.org, there is a “New to GS” tab with LOTS of great information.
Working together, we will be able to provide Girl Scout activities that the whole family can enjoy during the holiday season. Participation in virtual troop meetings, virtual council and GSUSA events can help a girl’s mental well-being and prevent feelings of social isolation. Please let your families know about these events and resources.
We thank all of you for your extraordinary efforts this year to provide activities for your girls, whether virtual, in person or both. It hasn’t been easy. You are such great examples of go-getters, innovators, risk-takers and leaders! We are so proud of you! We hope you and yours stay safe during the holiday season.
