This training is for adults and girls at least 17 years old to earn the certification needed to take your troop/group swimming. The class will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
**All study work will be completed online before coming to class (with printed certificates in hand).**
The curriculum consists of a minimum of 32 hours of instruction. All classroom and pool sessions are mandatory. Any missed instruction may negate certification. There will be a swimming skills test the first day of class. Before beginning the Lifeguard or Lifeguard re-certification course, you must be able to do the following:
Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating the freestyle and breaststroke.
Swim 20 yards, retrieving a 10 lb. weight from 7-13 feet of water, hold the object while swimming back to the starting point, and exit the pool without using any ladder or steps. This must be accomplished within one minute and forty seconds.
Tread water for 2 minutes without using your arms.
You should bring a swimsuit, water bottle, towel, change of clothes, water shoes or old tennis shoes that can get wet and sunscreen. Overnight accommodations are available.
